Baumrundung

Baumrundung**
„Baumrundung“, Pencil and ink pen on paper, 71 cm × 100 cm, 2016.

‘Baumrundung’ (‘Tree Curvature’) is based on a months-long engagement with a tree stump in Berlin’s Humboldthain park. Located in a bush beside a main path, it was visited several times a week and gradually mapped through repeated drawing. Each visit involved a slight shift in position and viewpoint. The stump was unfolded from its cut surfaces through the bark toward the roots into a two-dimensional image. This spatial translation was accompanied by a temporal one: the slow transformation of the dead but inhabited wood—with its fading bark, eroding tissue, and fungi, woodlice, and insects—was inscribed into the surface of the paper. During the process, notes on the drawing process, the surroundings, and the unfolding thoughts were recorded directly on the sheet.
