“Quarry” dates back to the summer of 2016 and is the result of a twelve-day study of a rock face in Llançà, Catalonia. Following a routine schedule—getting up around seven o’clock; arriving at the bay shortly before eight; drawing until just before noon—a folded sheet was produced each day, the front of which depicts a fragment of the rock formation. The chosen viewpoint remained constant over the course of the 12 days, so that the individual sheets came together to form a coherent, albeit fragmentary, overall image. Interwoven into the drawing are times indicating the moment of creation of the adjacent lines. These correspond to a legend of notes on each respective moment, in which states of mind, lighting conditions, or fleeting thoughts were recorded.
