Pedro Stoichita

I am a visual artist working with drawing, comics and research-based projects. My work explores how historical, cultural and socio-political realities can be constructed and understood visually — from experimental author projects to collaborations with institutions.

Selected Work

La Coloquinte (in progress)

A philosophical tale in the form of eco-fiction, built on a simple premise: the world is a squash. An adventure shaped by questions of technology and the relation between individual and society.

Le trésor mathématique de Polybius

A combinatory comic conceived as a book-object: a system generating up to 10,000 visual sequences. Also developed as a mechanical installation producing ever-changing narratives.

Lichtenhagen 1992

A graphic reconstruction of the racist attacks on the “Sonnenblumenhaus”, developed with the University of Rostock and grounded in interviews and historical research.

Digital Lines / Das war für uns das Aus

A graphic narrative based on the lives of Otto Rosenberg and Emílie Danielová, drawn from archival material and testimonies. Realized first as an online comic in close collaboration with European Academy Berlin and other institutions. Published as a book by Berlin-Marzahn Forced Labour Camp Memorial.

Journey to the End of the Surface

A research-based drawing project centred on the surface of a piece of ginger. Observation, touch and notation unfold into a cartography of microstructures, assembled as a box of prints, drawings and a logbook.

Quarry

A twelve-day drawing protocol focused on a rock face. Produced from a fixed viewpoint, sequential sheets form a fragmented whole, interweaving observation, time and notation.
